Lumbar Stenosis Boot camp

Spinal+Stenosis+Bootcamp

A major benefit of the LSS Boot camp is that it enables patients to regain control of their body and active lifestyles. Patients learn valuable skills for managing their chronic illness, enabling both continued active lifestyles and the patient’s ability to advocate for their needs.

Developed by Dr. Carlo Ammendolia at the Rebecca MacDonald Centre for Arthritis and Autoimmune Diseases at Mount Sinai Hospital, this revolutionary program provides an effective treatment plan for Lumbar Spinal Stenosis (LSS). LSS, also known as osteoarthritis, is one of the most common causes of disability and loss of independence in older adults. LSS is caused by thickening of the spinal joints and thinning of the spinal discs, resulting in the narrowing of the spinal canals. This in turn compresses spinal nerves, producing pain, burning, numbness, tingling and weakness of the legs, buttock and lower pack. Symptoms are often exacerbated by standing or walking, thus decrease activity and leading to a decline in overall health.

Surgery is rarely performed, and positive results of such procedures generally diminish over time. The LSS Boot Camp program enables patients to improve their quality of life and maintain independence through a combination of manual therapy, special exercise, instruction on body re-positioning techniques and self management strategies.

How LSS Boot camp works…

  • On the first visit, patients will receive manual therapy and instructions on several exercises and self management strategies.

  • Over the course of six weeks, patients receive subsequent manual therapy, review previous exercises, and receive new exercises of increasing intensity.

  • Patients are additionally provided with a workbook to help them review the exercise and self management strategies, and to help them keep track of their progress as they advance through the program.
